Vintage Signs of Utica, New York.

" Morehouse ". Original Art Deco sign circa 1935. Columbia Street, downtown. This and many other signs available for print on demand minus the large center watermark at:
http://peter-gumaer-ogden.fineartamerica.com

" Foto Fair ". Vintage [circa 1975?] hand cut and hand painted sign on old empty former custom photo store. Columbia Street, downtown; near Morehouse, above.

" Joey's ". A very popular East Utica restaurant on Mohawk Street. This sign apparently disappeared in 2013.

" Mr. Nostalgia". Circa 1965?  Nostalgic east Utica sign.

" Such A Carwash ". Destroyed in 2013. Downtown.

" Shaheen's Shoes ". Columbia Square, west Utica.

" Norm Seakan TV & Appliances ", 360 Columbia Street. This building has been vacant for many years; downtown.

" Club Monarch ". Oriskany Blvd., Whitesboro-New York Mills.

" Off-Center Records ". One of the last classic "brick and mortar" vinyl record stores in upstate New York has been at this location for decades having survived long enough to now enjoy the renaissance of interest in vintage vinyl which draws in visitors from all over America. The owner is also a classic and a musician. Bleecker Street. Downtown.

Downtown at the corner of Genesee Street and Oriskany Blvd. Now APAC.

" East Side Market ". Bleecker Street, east Utica.

" We Fix Toys for the Big Boys ". Specialty automotive garage. Bleecker Street, east Utica.

" Soley - Roberts ". Architectural. Circa 1925? Court Street, west Utica.

" Charles Town ". This was a large commercial "mall" center on the eastern edge of Utica on Bleecker Street Extension which closed several decades ago and has been vacant for years. It's in the style of a very spacious industrial building with a huge parking lot. As the Syracuse-Utica-Albany region economy continues to revive this center is likely to be purchased by a shrewd investor and revitalized successfully within the next few years.

" Springer & Schmalz ". Carlton Avenue, downtown.

" D & L Leather and Supplies ". Occasionally in 2010-2012 we used to encounter 1950s old "new" supplies in the original boxes set out by D & J for the trash pickup. For many years their window has featured a large handsome old late Victorian foot pedal powered sewing machine plus a few antique wood shoe molds and a genuine cow skull with a fake tarantula perched atop it. Seneca Street, downtown.

" Bar Varick Nascar ". Varick Street, west Utica.

"Stage Music". West Utica.

" Freeman & Foote Jewelers ". Genesee Street. Downtown.

" Dependable Champion Spark Plugs ". Wall mural. Burchard Lane. Downtown.

" Barber Shop in the Station ". Inside the Utica Train Station. An early Art Deco relic barber shop furnished with period antique fixtures including, as of this posting, 100+ year old barber chairs. Interestingly this sign was restored several months after I posted this image.

" Hurd ". Building. High crime zone Bagg's Square. Downtown.

Favorite late night handout for gangsters and transients from the nearby railroad action.

"Holland Farms" . The cow "busts" are fully sculpted and project off the billboard. This is one of my all time favorite upstate New York signs. Yorkville / Whitesboro.

"Michael T. Lavelle, D.D.S." Yorkville-Whitesboro.

"Bremer's Bullocks". Nonfunctioning neon sign circa 1960? Oneida Square.

"AA&J Insurance". Classic circa 1950s sign. Oneida Square.

"Voss Bar B-Q". In business for decades, this local eating institution is extremely popular with local families. Yorkville-New York Mills.

"Scholl." Whitesboro Street, west Utica.
